Have you heard about the website ilovebagram.com that’s drawing national media attention and notoriety among the military? Someone replying to one of my articles on ClearanceJobs.com left a link to it, but I have to warn you…if you’ve ever spent time at Bagram as I have (May 2004 – January 2008), you may find the site disturbingly addictive. It’s totally sick – as defined in the first reference of the adjective by The Online Slang Dictionary.
To say that it is satirical is a gross understatement. It is satire in the extreme - it’s comical, it’s raw, it’s unfiltered, uncensored and in your face with comments posted by thousands of down range soldiers and contractors, and has even been written about by Pulitzer Prize-winning reporter Mark Thompson, in the online version of TIME: Battleland (Where military intelligence is not a contradiction in terms), and within Tom Ricks column appearing on Foreignpolicy.com, THE BEST DEFENSE.
A fitting alternate name for ILB – as it is popularly known – would be ilovebagram.com…NOT!
